Audition Information

Auditions are held in Spring, prior to the late-August start of our season.  Auditions are also held at the mid-year point in January, after our Christmas concert.

We are currently scheduling auditions for our 2019-2020 season.  For our existing choristers, we will hold our "move-up" auditions on May 7 (this audition is required only for existing BCC choristers who are interested in transitioning up to the next level BCC choir).

For those looking join Barrington Children's Choir for the 2019-2020 season, we invite you to participate in a "placement audition" May 8 or 9, 2019.  Please fill out the Audition Interest Form by clicking on the link to the right, and a representative from BCC will contact you with additional information and help schedule your audition.

We welcome those who will be in the 2nd through 12th grade during the 2019-2020 academic year.

Our Grace Notes choir will be auditioned for vocal placement only; all 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders in Grace Notes are accepted into the choir and invited to begin their vocal training.

Upon acceptance to any of our choirs, a welcome letter and request for deposit is emailed to the family.  A complete registration package detailing rehearsals, tuition, and BCC policies is also emailed to the family.

The Audition Process

Grace Notes (grades 2 thru 4) - Placement audition only

Solo: Your child will be asked to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" as a solo for our 3 directors. The solo enables the directors to hear your child "match pitch" (sing in tune). The directors make the process as stress free as possible.

Group sing: Your child will be asked to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" in a small group. The directors will teach a simple song for the group to sing together.

The audition process will last approximately 45 minutes.

Prelude Choir (grades 3 thru 7) - standard audition

Solo: Please prepare a one-minute piece to sing for our 3 directors. The song should demonstrate the singer's range of high and low pitches.

Your child will be asked to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" as a solo a few times. The director will make harmony with your child as you sing Twinkle.

The audition process will last approximately 15 minutes.

Chamber Choir (grades 6 thru 12) - standard audition

Solo: Please prepare a one-minute piece to sing for our 3 directors. The song should demonstrate the singer's range of high and low pitches.

An accompanist will be available to play during the audition.

Those auditioning might also be asked to sight read a few measures.
